Sandy and I appreciate you joining with us to have church. Where two or three have gathered in the name of Jesus, Jesus is present. Jesus loves you and knows you by name. Join with us in returning thanks for the love of Jesus.

Psalm 23

A Psalm of David.

1 The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. 2 He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters. 3 He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness for His name’s sake. 4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me. 5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; My cup runs over. 6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; And I will dwell in the house of the LORD Forever.

This passage of scripture is most likely the most popular set of scriptures ever memorized and used at all kinds of events. Usually, it is used in funerals. But today I want to paint a picture of life the comes from knowing that Jesus is the Sheppard. In fact, Jesus said in John 10:11, “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd gives His life for the sheep.” A shepherd define by the Cambridge dictionary when used as a verb means—”to make a group of people move to where you want them to go, especially in a kind, helpful, and careful way”. Jesus is the good shepherd of kindness, helping in a careful way leading your life in places where there are green pastures which symbolizes life or a place of satisfaction. Psalm 107:9 For He satisfies the longing soul, and fills the hungry soul with goodness. Jesus, also leads us near the still waters which is a place of peace. Peace that passes all understanding.

What is that peace? Ephesians 6:15 answers it this way, “and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace.” Peace is that which Jesus the good shepherd shares with you (His Word) so that you can walk your life road in joy and be led forth in peace (Isaiah 55:12) If we learn to be still knowing that Jesus is Lord, resting in His life and learn His Word which is our peace. Then, our soul is restored and we can walk in His way of living. It is there in the life of Christ that we experience no fear. It is in the life of Christ that we are fed and anointed by the Holy Spirit. When we are in that place of living and only that place, we will experience the goodness and mercy of God. One day we will forever be in the House of God. Life comes from the shepherd Jesus. I intend to keep Jesus as my shepherd, do you?
